On the weekend of 7/8th April a few of the students from the Hatfield/Birchwood/Codicote clubs went down to Sittingbourne in Kent to take part in the AMA Southern Competition.
I thought it would be a good idea to check it out ahead of potentially committing the whole of the ESKA squad next year… Read on to see how we got on.
Despite it just being a bit of a last minute thing, we had some great news.
Max Galloway came 1st in the under nine boys category! No mean feat considering the quality and numbers in his group. Well done Max!
Max’s older brother Jack made it to the final of his category (10-12 boys), but sadly he just missed out on a medal. His group was also packed with loads of kids, some of which were exceptionally good. Poor Jack was left waiting all morning for his chance to compete, which didn’t help with his nerves and preparation. Whereas Max and myself were on almost straight away.
That said both boys performed brilliantly and did our clubs and ESKA proud.
I also decided to have a go and took part in the Veteran’s Kata category and the Open Kata category. I came 2nd in the Veteran’s and 4th in the Open.
I think its safe to say, it was a day well spent and definitely worth the visit. So watch this space in 2019, as we will be taking the whole squad there.
