On the 18th September 2013, the Ickleford Dojo opened its doors for the very first time! On Sunday 9th September 2018 it celebrated its 5th Birthday with a huge party!
From the feedback received, everyone had an amazing time!
On Wednesday 18th September 2013 the Ickleford club opened its Dojo doors for the very first time. There was 19 students in the very first lesson and Sensei Steve was assisted by Sempai Aidan and Rennan. Of the 19 students at the very first lesson, I am pleased to say we still have 3 of them with us… Eren (1st Kyu – 1 Black Tag), Patrick (1st Kyu – 1 Black Tag) and Jem (Brown Belt)! Also congratulations to Eren and Patrick for reaching their 5 year karate milestone (Jem had a short break in between).
Here’s a couple of shots from the very first lessons:
The Ickleford club were very lucky to be allowed to use Ickleford School’s premises for the party. There was lots going on throughout the day, with plenty of food and drinks:
- Bouncy Castle
- Inflatable Duel
- Connect 4
- BBQ – Burgers and Hot Dogs!
- Sweets & Crisps
The party started at 12pm and ran until about 4pm, then all of the assistant instructors and helpers went for a well deserved Curry!
So, here is the ESKA 2018 “Deep South Real Ale Tour” synopsis with the usual anecdotal stories…. Sensei Gavin having yet another food issue, Sensei Tony still unable to drink a full pint of Ale, the welcome introduction of 2 new “Real Alers” and of course another excellent final meal to finish the night off.

- Carol Docwra’s Funeral14th April 2019 - 11:05 am
Many of the current ESKA students won’t know Carol, but Carol was Edward Docwra’s wife, more commonly referred to as ‘Ted’ Docwra. Ted is a celebrity within ESKA as the ‘Spirit’ cup is named after him.
